In the End, They’re Still Close

リリィとミルク

We have three cats at home. The oldest and the middle one don’t really get along.

They don’t fight, but whenever the middle cat gets close, the oldest gives her a little paw smack.

And yet sometimes they nap side by side, almost looking friendly, which I find funny.

So today I’m sharing some photos where they seem to get along.

The oldest is Lily, a black-and-white cat with a tuxedo pattern.

The middle one is Milk, a calico.

This rare photo shows them napping close together, even though they usually sleep far apart.

Lily almost seems aware of Milk’s presence, but maybe that’s just my imagination.

Then Lily suddenly sits up, spacing out.

Now Milk looks like she’s sneaking a peek, keeping one eye slightly open to watch Lily.

Honestly, Milk really does want to be friends and play, but Lily—maybe because of her age or personality—finds her a bit annoying.

Still, they’ve grown closer than before.

Here’s a closer shot: Milk is definitely sneaking glances at Lily!

Meanwhile Lily just keeps staring blankly, not noticing at all.

By the way, Lily is 12, and Milk is 5.

Our youngest cat is Latte, also a calico, 3 years old. She and Milk get along great, probably because they’re close in age and both calicos.

I originally planned to keep only two pets. But one day at the vet’s office, a rescued kitten (Milk) was shown to us, and my daughter begged to adopt her. We couldn’t resist.

Later, while I was driving, I found an injured kitten on the road—and ended up bringing her home, too. That’s how we became a three-cat family.

Together with our ferret, Pudding, that makes four animals in total. Every day is lively but full of healing moments.

Lily is a bit high-strung and doesn’t easily open up to other cats.

Surprisingly though, she gets along best with Pudding, our ferret—maybe because they’re different species?

When Milk comes too close, Lily swats her away. But when Pudding approaches, Lily just sniffs her and goes back to zoning out.

Back when Pudding was younger, she and Lily used to play together a lot.

Ferrets actually have a short lifespan of about 7–8 years. Pudding is turning 6 soon, so she’s already an old lady.

Both cats and ferrets have such unique personalities—it’s fun to watch them every day. They heal me, make me laugh, and bring me happiness.

I hope this post brings a little warmth to your day, too.
